Agua University - Class of Summer 2009

class of fall 2009 - compton

Students from around Compton, mostly from Compton High School, receive certificates of completion after attending 7 weeks of Agua University.  Throughout the seven weeks of classes, students learned about the importance of water in their lives, their community and throughout the state.

These set of workshops had a focus on the Compton Creek Watershed.  Students monitored the quality of the creeks water at several points throughout the watershed and at it’s confluence with the LA River, they learned about water supply policies and conveyance in the state, toured their watershed and spent time in neighboring watersheds learning about big picture connections.

The graduation event student presentations revealed that the students had a deeper understanding of how much water plays a role in their lives and that the y had an increased level of awareness on the urgency of taking action today to protect this life essential resource.
